Basic Bee Workshop – Bush Capital Beekeeping

Bush Capital Beekeeping offer a Basic Bee (2 hour) Workshop which is ideally aimed for those who are considering bees, but are yet to work out where to start, or if beekeeping is right for them.

This workshop is run during the cooler months of the year when bees are not active, allowing ample time for the many decisions you will need to make, including suitability, location and hive type before the bee season starts again in Spring.

As a collective group, we will identify your motive or ambitions for the workshop participation, and beekeeping in general.

Every participant will be provided with course notes that can be taken home and kept for future reference. There is no need to bring a notebook!

We discuss the the following topics:

Ethics of keeping European Honey bees, an imported species vs native bees, and the
environmental impacts of the craft.

Social impact, responsibilities and commitment.

Legal responsibilities including registration and bio-security requirements.

Discuss and view the various hive types available.

Sourcing or Obtaining bees.

Whilst there will be no handling of live bees at this workshop, there will be a number of hive types on hand for you to take a look at including a traditional wooden Langstroth hive, Flow Hive and also the Canberra made HiveIQ.
