We often receive requests for assistance to help assemble a hive, which as lead to hosting ‘Build a Hive’ workshop.
These workshops are offered in the cooler months of the year to ensure your hive is ready for the spring.
We have three workshops and options available when it comes to assembling hives, so please select the most appropriate workshop for your choice of hive.
The first workshop is for traditional Langstroth hives. These can be either timber, or polly hives such as the Canberra made (and climate suited) HiveIQ, and is run over two days (4 + 4 hours).
The second workshop is for Flow Hives. These are more involved than assembling a traditional Langstroth hive, and is run over two days (6 + 4 hours)
For either of these two workshops, you are welcome to either bring your own hive that you havepurchased elsewhere, or we can supply at cost, however you will need to let us know when booking.
The third option is to build a wooden 5 frame nucleus hive which we supply. These are an ideal introduction to the necessary tools and skills for hive assembly on a smaller format, and within one day (6 hours).
Your nucleus hive is ideal to catch a smaller swarm in the spring or summer, or even perform a split on a larger colony at a later date. They are a fantastic piece of equipment that no beekeeper should be without.
You may work individually, or with a friend, however we will be there every step of the way sharing the correct techniques, advice and assistance to ensure you leave with a fully assembled bee hive at the end of the day.
We will have a range of appropriate paints and colours on hand, however if you really want to individualise your hive, please let is know beforehand and we will provide advice on the correct paints for your hive.
